Curriculum and Courses

The mission of the Intensive English Program at Missouri S&T is to assist international students in attaining the proficiency level needed to meet language standards and promote a successful transition to academic programs.

The Intensive English Program (IEP) offers an integrated curriculum that helps students develop a high level of proficiency in all skill areas of the English language. The IEP focuses on students developing a solid understanding and usage of academic English.

Most students in the IEP are international students with F-1 Visas. All F-1 students are required to be enrolled full-time, a minimum of 20 hours of curriculum, to meet immigration standards.

Upon arrival, students are tested to determine their level of English skills. Each full-time student is then placed in the appropriate level of coursework in each skill area: Grammar, Writing, Reading, Presentation, Pronunciation, and Listening. Other specialized courses offered are Seminar and Conversation Partners. Additionally, students can receive individual mentoring and spend time in the IEP's English Language Computer Center.
