About Admission:

Is admission to the IEP the same as admission to Missouri S&T?
No, it is not. There is a separate admission process for becoming an undergraduate or graduate student at Missouri S&T. For more information, please visit Missouri S&T Admissions Office.

What information is there for students who want to enter graduate school?
You should review all the required steps for admission on the Graduate Admissions website. We can also help you meet graduate students via e-mail so that you can ask for advice in your native language.

Is there an age requirement?
Students must be 18 years of age or older.

How long does it take for the IEP to evaluate an application and issue an I-20?
IEP staff members must receive all required documents: the application, application fee, certified bank statement, copy of passport, and highschool or college transcripts. Admission materials are then forwarded to the International Student Services team for I-20 processing.

Can I take classes at Missouri S&T University while attending the IEP?
No.  At this time, immigration regulations prohibit concurrent enrollment.

Can students attend the IEP part-time?
Yes, part-time study is allowed depending on your passport status. Contact a staff member for more information.

When is the application deadline?
There is not a deadline. However, you must remember that you will need to plan ahead, so you have sufficient time for the embassy visit and be at Missouri S&T by the required start dates. New students should attend New Student Orientation and complete all English Proficiency Testing. Remember to plan ahead when applying for your studies!

About Cost:

How much is tuition and what does it include?
The IEP tuition rates can be found in the 2016-2017 Cost Sheet. Is financial aid available for IEP tuition?
No, it's not.

When and how shall I pay for my tuition?
The full tuition for one session is due by the registration day. For more information about the IEP calendar, click here.

What type of payment does IEP accept?
We accept cash, credit card (MasterCard & Visa), or check. If you are being sponsored by an agency, please ask the sponsor to submit official documentation detailing their support and contact information so that we can obtain specific details regarding the sponsorship.

Does the IEP offer health insurance?
All students and scholars on an F-1 or J-1 visa must purchase the required international student health insurance. This insurance must be purchased through an independent Insurance Carrier selected by the University of Missouri System. For more information, visit this website.

What if I need to drop my classes before the end of the semester? What is the refund policy?
If a student must drop all classes in the program, they must inform the Program Director and their International Student Advisor in order to avoid problems with their immigration status. The Intensive English Program’s refund policy is consistent with that of Missouri University of Science & Technology. Students who need to drop from our program, for any reason, should review the campus' academic date and deadline calendar to determine the percentage of refund. The last day for 100% refund is prior to the first day of classes, a 90% refund is available on the Friday of the first full week of class, a 70% refund on the Monday of the third week of class, and a 50% refund on the Monday of the 6th week of class.

About the Program:

Is the IEP accredited?
The Intensive English Program is part of Missouri University of Science & Technology. The campus is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Director of the Intensive English Program was a member of the campus accreditation preparation team.

The IEP is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. The IEP is an active member of the American Association of Intensive English Programs.

Is there a placement test?
Students are required to complete a series of language proficiency tests upon entry to the program. In addition, students will be required to complete placement testing on the first day of class to determine student levels and class placement.

Where do the students come from?
Our students are from a variety of countries including: China, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, South Korea, Brazil, UAE, Colombia, and Mexico!

When does the program begin and end?
You must check the calendar to see the semester begin and end dates. Our program always begins and ends on the same calendar as Missouri S&T. Check this website for more information.

How long does it take to finish the program?
It depends on what your level is when you begin the program. If you’ve been studying English for many years in your country, you may only need to be in our program for one semester. If you’ve never studied English before, it could take two years to have the skills required for academic study. Students who work very hard and attend all of their classes make excellent progress over a year.

Does the IEP offer courses for children?
The IEP is not able to offer courses for children. We require that our students be of college age. We are able to help you find tutors who might be able to help your children improve their language skills.

Does Missouri S&T accept IEP students without TOEFL score?
Most departments will accept a recommendation of “readiness for academic studies” from the Intensive English Program as a substitute for the TOEFL score. Students must receive high marks in their classes and the required score on their English Proficiency testing.

Other:

Do you provide housing? How can I find housing?

Does the IEP offer airport pickup?
