Is admission to the IEP the same as admission to Missouri S&T?
No, it is not. There is a separate admission process for becoming an undergraduate or graduate student at Missouri S&T. For more information please visit Missouri S&T Admissions office.
Is there an age requirement?
Students must be 18 years of age or older.
How long does it take for the IEP to evaluate an application and issue an I-20?
Once IEP staff members have received all required documents: the application, application fee, bank statement, college transcripts, they will begin the I-20 process. It normally takes up to 5 business days to issue an I-20.
Can I take classes at Missouri S&T University while attending the IEP?
Yes. With the IEP Director’s permission and completed admission to Missouri S&T, students can take Missouri S&T courses for credit or as an auditor. Students must pay for the cost of classes and must complete all required admission steps. Students must also demonstrate that they have advanced communication skills and will be successful in an academic environment.
Can students attend the IEP part-time?
Yes, part-time study is allowed, but F-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time. Full-time enrollment in the IEP is enrollment in and attendance of 20 hours of IEP course work.
When is the application deadline?
There is no deadline. However, you must remember that you will need to plan ahead so you have sufficient time for the embassy visit and be at Missouri S&T by the required start dates. New students must attend New Student Orientation and complete all English Proficiency testing. Remember to plan ahead when applying for studies!
How much is tuition and what does it include?
The IEP tuition rates can be found with Cost information. The tuition rate of $4,200.00 covers the cost of 20 credit hours of in-class language training each week, Conversation Partners, and the use of extensive computing and library resources at Missouri S&T University.
Is financial aid available for IEP tuition?
No, its not.
When and how shall I pay for my tuition?
The full tuition for one session is due by the registration day. For more information about the Calendar click here.
What type of payment does IEP accept?
We accept cash, credit card (MasterCard & Visa), or check. If you are being sponsored by an agency, please ask the sponsor to submit official documentation detailing their support and contact information so that we can obtain specific details regarding the sponsorship.
Does the IEP offer health insurance?
All students and scholars on an F-1 or J-1 visa must have the required international student health insurance. This insurance must be purchased through an independent Insurance Carrier selected by the University of Missouri System. Is the IEP accredited?
The Intensive English Program is part of Missouri University of Science & Technology. The campus recently went through a thorough accreditation review through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The assistant director of the Intensive English Program was a member of the campus accreditation preparation team.
The Intensive English Program is an active member of the American Association of Intensive English Programs. We are reviewing our curriculum, processes and procedures to prepare for the initial stages of the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation.
Is there a placement test?
Students are required to complete a series of language proficiency tests upon entry to the program. In addition, students will be required to complete placement testing on the first day of class to determine student levels and class placement.
Where do the students come from?
Many of our students are from the Middle East in the past year – countries like Saudi Arabia, Libya, Kuwait and Iraq. Other students are from South Korea, China, Peru, Japan and Puerto Rico!
When does the program begin and end?
You must check the calendar to see the semester begin and end dates. Our program always begins and ends on the same calendar as Missouri S&T. Check this website for more information click here.
How long does it take to finish the program?
It depends on what your level is when you begin the program. If you’ve been studying English for many years in your country, you may only need to be in our program for one semester. If you’ve never studied English before, it could take two years to have the skills required for academic study. Students who work very hard and attend all of their classes make excellent progress over a year.
What information is there for students who want to enter graduate school?
You should review all the required steps for admission on the graduate admission website. We can also help you meet graduate students via e-mail so that you can ask for advice in your native language.
Does the IEP offer courses for children?
The IEP is not able to offer courses for children. We require that our students be of college age. We are able to help you find tutors who might be able to help your children improve their language skills.
Does Missouri S&T accept IEP students without TOEFL score?
Most departments will accept a recommendation of “readiness for academic studies” from the Intensive English Program as a substitute for the TOEFL score. Students must complete with high marks in their classes and the required score on their English Proficiency testing.
Do you provide housing? How can I find housing?
The IEP does not provide housing, but you can register for housing through the university Residential Life department. You might choose to rent a local apartment or house and you must contact ___???___

Yes! Please let us know your travel dates so that we can make arrangements for your transportation to Rolla.
