Welcome to the Applied Language Institute (ALI)

The main program of the Applied Language  Institute is an Intensive English Program which offers 3 levels of instruction year-round.  Levels of instruction are determined by the levels of the students.  Experienced  faculty teach small, interactive classes in the areas of Listening, Reading, Grammar, Writing, Verbal Skills, Vocabulary skills and introductions to American culture.  Coursework emphasizes preparation for academic work at the  university  level.  Short-term programs are available and can be tailored to the needs of the student and  organizations. 

The mission of the Applied Language Institute is to meet the language needs of Missouri University of Science and Technology’s international community.  The Institute has developed various programs that help the Missouri S&T international community fulfill their educational and professional goals. 

The mission of  the Intensive English Program at Missouri S&T is to provide training to students who need to attain proficiency levels for admission to Missouri S&T.  The program also accepts full-time students who want to improve their English skills.  Our goal is to help students gain a sound functional competence in the English language.
