Meeting Your Language Needs

The primary mission of Missouri S&T's Applied Language Institute (ALI) is to meet the language needs of the university's international community. The ALI has developed permanent, ongoing language programs and will develop temporary programs as needed to help Missouri S&T's international community fulfill their educational and professional goals. The Applied Language Institute is composed of two major areas:

INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM

The Intensive English Program (IEP) assists international students with developing the English language proficiency needed to successfully complete their academic studies. The IEP also helps students adjust to American culture and develop healthy study habits.

Intensive English Online Classes

Intensive English 4.0 Online.

The Intensive English Program at Missouri S&T offers a unique online program for students who have been conditionally admitted to S&T or plan on applying to S&T but have not met the university’s English language requirement. Upon successfully completing this program, students will meet the English language proficiency requirement of Missouri S&T (at the undergraduate level). The course is 16 weeks and meets four times a week. Each class meeting is 100 minutes in duration. To gain admission to this program, students must already possess a TOEFL 60 or IELTS 5.5 score. Students whose scores are less than TOEFL 60 or IELTS 5.5 will not fulfill Intensive English Proficiency requirements in one semester and should plan continued enrollment.  Students who do not have TOEFL or IELTS scores will be required to take a placement test. Students who place in Level 4 are eligible for this program.
